Lahaina |
Chez Paul |
BJ's Chicago Pizzeria |
Hawaii's oldest French restaurant has been on Maui since 1979. Off to the side of the road in Olowalu, just five miles south of Lahaina, it's one of Maui's best. The wine list is excellent and the desserts keep people coming back. Two seatings are available nightly, at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Reservations are required. Closed Sundays from May to November. 820-B Olowalu Village 661-3843 |
An upstairs joint, with a great ocean view, serves deep-dish pizza, in three sizes with your choice of more than a dozen toppings. It used to be the Blue Max, a favorite spot full of airplane memorabilia and still has walls full of historical photos of Maui. There is a selection of homemade sandwiches, pasta dishes, specialty salads and soups. For dessert, a decadent "pizookie 'n cream", a freshly baked cookie served with vanilla ice cream and toppings. Imported and domestic beers and a small, moderately priced wine list. Open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. 730 Front St., 661-0700 |
David Paul's Lahaina Grill |
Gerard's |
Chef/owner David Paul Johnson calls his cookery "New American Cuisine" and he wins awards with it. His dishes have the taste of Southwestern cooking. Try spicy crab cakes, made with Dungeness crab, chili peppers and capellini pasta for an appetizer. Tequila shrimp is a signature dish, served with red chili-spiced firecracker rice. Specialties include grilled fresh local seafood, Kona coffee roasted lamb, and fried mahi sushi. The bar is intimate and the decor is 1900's. Dinner served nightly from 6:00 p.m. l27 Lahainaluna Road 667-5117 |
Just off Front Street, on
the first floor of the Plantation Inn, Gerard's feels like
an intimate cafe in France. Chef/owner Gerard Reversade's
food preparation and presentation have won him many awards.
Wine Spectator says the wine list is outstanding. You'll
find specialties like quail stuffed with basmati rice,
grilled rack of lamb with persillade crust, and opakapaka
roasted with Hawaiian peppers. Appetizers, soups and salads
are all made with the freshest ingredients. For dessert, try
the creme brulee. The service is attentive and friendly.
Dinner served nightly from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Reservations
recommended. Plantation Inn, 174 Lahainaluna Road,
661-8939 |
